This weekend is Trinity Sunday. Nicodemus, a leader and teacher of the Jews, visits Jesus at night wanting to know more about the God of whom he has been speaking (John 3:1-17). Jesus talks of the Father being loving towards us, the Son being sent to save us and of the Holy Spirit being like the wind. God is understood in threes through the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Stories happen in threes with a beginning, middle and end. We live our lives in threes as dreamers, doers and revolutionaries. We are dreamers because we have a vision of how things will be - a new heaven and a new earth (Isaiah 65:7). We are doers because we live as if things were already this way - with neither fear nor worry and not judging others (Luke 12:24 & 12:22 & 6:37). We are revolutionaries because we act so that things will be better for the poor and dispossessed within society - when people are hungry we feed them and when they are thirsty we give them something to drink (Matthew 25:45). We are made in the image of God and our lives thus lived become personal transformation and social justice rolled together in the face of Christ.
Weekly reflections on the Gospel for the
coming Sunday are available on request. They will come once
a week and will never be more than 200 words. If you would
