In the Gospel passage for this week Jesus says that the greatest commandment of all is to love God and neighbor (Matthew 22:37-40). There are essentially only two different types of story that are told and then retold in different forms. There are stories of love and beauty and there are stories of right and wrong. In the Christian narrative both are combined. Jesus' death was an act of love and his resurrection was a triumph for what is right. In this passage the love of God is a thing of beauty and the love for one's neighbor a thing of duty. The two go hand in hand together, as the Psalmist describes it, love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss. (Psalm 85:10)
