The passage for this Sunday is the shout of joy from Mary when the Angel Gabriel tells her that she is to be mother to the Son of God. Her delight has becomes known as the ‘Magnificat’, which is the Greek word from which the term, beloved of youth culture, ‘mega’ is derived. If we are finding ourselves feeling stressed with cards to write, presents to buy and jobs to be done, we can draw wisdom from the fact that 21st century youth culture and New Testament Greek offer the same insight: enjoy what we have got rather than worry about what we don’t.
Weekly reflections on the Gospel for the
coming Sunday are available on request. They will come once
a week and will never be more than 200 words. If you would
