We are continuing to develop a two-fold vision for the church. This is for us to be a church ‘in and for the local community as well as somewhere that parents feel comfortable bringing their children. An important part of this vision will be the Parish Residential being organised for September 7th. The idea is for us to spend one night away so that we can get to know each other better. The cost is £50 and there are already only 25 places left. Do book up before we get sold out.
I need people to put themselves forward and to take ownership of our church enterprise. We need
- Someone to work with Marjorie as Church Warden
- Help for the small skeleton of people who arrange the week-by-week running of the church services.
- Everyone (who is able) to give by standing order rather than through the church collection plate on Sundays
It is now 40 days since the death of George Edwards. We pray for Rowlette and for all the family (Chris, Val and Steve)
The Tram: Plans to build a tram up the Uxbridge road are a nightmare! The trams will be twice the size of a bendy bus, each tram will take 200 people with seats for only 80, there will be half the amount of stops. There is a big public meeting at Bush Hall (corner of Uxbridge and Arminger Road) on June 4th at 7 pm – come and make your voice heard
Processional Hymn
Collect of the Day
God, who as at this time taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgement in all things and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
First Reading Acts 2: 1 – 21 (p. 885)
1When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. 5Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7Amazed and astonished, they asked, ‘Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabs – in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.’ 12All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, ‘What does this mean?’ 13But others sneered and said, ‘They are filled with new wine.’ 14But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: ‘Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. 16No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 17“In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 21Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Gradual Hymn
GOSPEL John 14.8-17 (p. 889)
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
