Alpha: The Alpha Course starts with a meal on Wednesday January 17th at 7.30pm. Each evening will start with a meal so that people have a chance to talk and to get to know each other. There is then a video presentation and an opportunity for discussion. Sylvie and I will host the evening and Cameron Collington (the vicar from St Simons) will be leading the discussions. The two churches are working together on this project, which is excellent.
Please pray about whether the Alpha Course might be right for you or whether there is someone you know who would like to come on the course. It is a good chance for people to have a Christian taster and an opportunity for people either to be refreshed or to find out more about the faith.
Felix Agozi: Felix worshipped with us at St Stephens for a year before being deported back to Ghana because he did not have the correct paperwork to stay in the United Kingdom. He has sent a Christmas card to the congregation thanking us for his time with us at St Stephens. He is utterly moral, utterly fabulous and completely upright. I would love to send him £300 for Christmas. He is responsible for supporting the wider members of his family. This would assure him of our love towards him and it would support him at a very difficult time. Please talk to me if you would feel able to contribute to this fine man.
Processional Hymn 166 Crown him with many crowns
Collect of the Day
Eternal Father, whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord and King: keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace, and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
First Reading Daniel 7.9-10,13-14 (p.751)
9As I watched,
thrones were set in place,
and an Ancient One took his throne;
his clothing was white as snow,
and the hair of his head like pure wool;
his throne was fiery flames,
and its wheels were burning fire.
10A stream of fire issued
and flowed out from his presence.
A thousand thousand served him,
and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him.
The court sat in judgement,
and the books were opened.
13As I watched in the night visions,
I saw one like a human being
coming with the clouds of heaven.
And he came to the Ancient One
and was presented before him.
14To him was given dominion
and glory and kingship,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
that shall not pass away,
and his kingship is one
that shall never be destroyed.
Gradual Hymn 170 Jesus is Lord
Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord.
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven.
All Alleluia.
GOSPEL John 18.33-37 (p.753)
33Pilate asked Jesus, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ 34Jesus answered, ‘Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?’ 35Pilate replied, ‘I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?’ 36Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.’ 37Pilate asked him, ‘So you are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.’
